How to ignite your oven.

Part 2 of our essential guide.

Igniting your Woody Oven.

Here is a video showing how to ignite your Woody with some key points. Read below for additional details and read through the entirety of our 4 part essential guide. *Remember to cure your stone prior to cooking.

Using Kindling

Add kindling to your fuel tray

Remove the pellet grate from the bottom of the fuel tray and fill it with kindling (like pictured) - circa 8 pieces of kindling should do the trick. be careful not to overfill (You will need to be able to slide this into opening at the rear of the oven)

Ignite the kindling

Use natural firelighters or wood wool to ignite the kindling - Use a few and nestle them into the kindling to get them to ignite.

Slide in your fuel tray

Once the kindling is on fire, take caution whilst sliding the fuel tray back into the oven. - Now would be great time to top up your kindling - using single pieces at a time.

Refuel your oven

Top up your kindling, frequently circa every 10 minutes to ensure you maintain a roaring flame. Use the peep hole on the door to inspect the fire. - Topping up frequently will maintain the heat.

*Tip - A combination of pellet and kindling we find offers the best of both worlds - a base of kindling and a top up with some pellet provides a consistent heat and roaring flame.

Using Pellets

Add pellets to the fuel tray

Fill the Woody Oven fuel tray with a few handfuls of pellet so the pellet grate is covered, be careful not to overfill (You will need to be able to slide this into opening at the rear of the oven)

Using Gas

Ensure you have followed all steps in part 1

Prior to igniting your oven with the gas attachment you should ensure that your door is completely off. This will ensure that there is no build-up of gas in the oven as a result of a failed ignition.

ENSURE DOOR IS OFF PRIOR TO IGNITING.

Ignite the oven

Simply push in and rotate the dial to the left until you hear a clicking sound as a result of the ignition. If the oven fails to ignite rotate the dial right to the starting position and repeat the process.

In some circumstances and environments, the gas attachment may fail to ignite, you can ignite it with a long reach piezoelectric gas lighter - commonly refered to as an oven lighter. Ensure the area is well ventilated.
